Product Overview
The Cisco Nexus 9000 Series product line consists of both fixed-configuration and modular switches engineered to accommodate various network tiers, from top-of-rack (ToR) and middle-of-rack (MoR) to spine-and-leaf fabric architectures.
The Cisco Nexus 9300 Series comprises the fixed-configuration switches within the portfolio. These switches offer versatile port options supporting 1G, 10G, 25G, 40G, 100G, and 400G Ethernet connection speeds. Designed for high port density, low latency, and energy efficiency, the Nexus 9300 switches serve as reliable access and aggregation layer options in modern data center environments.
For larger deployments requiring higher scale and modular flexibility, the portfolio includes the Cisco Nexus 9500 Series modular switches. This modular platform features three chassis options: the 4-slot Cisco Nexus 9504, the 8-slot Cisco Nexus 9508, and the 16-slot Cisco Nexus 9516 switch. These chassis accommodate a combination of line cards, system controllers, supervisor modules, fabric modules, and redundant power supplies, allowing organizations to scale bandwidth and port density as needed.
Both the fixed Nexus 9300 and modular Nexus 9500 product families leverage Cisco Cloud Scale ASIC technology. This hardware foundation enables line-rate performance, integrated telemetry, and efficient power management across the entire product suite.

The Cisco N9500 switching platform (Figure 1) offers three modular chassis:

Cisco N9500 Series Switch Chassis
The Cisco N9500 Series modular switches are capable of supporting up to 172.8 Terabits per second (Tbps) bandwidth with a comprehensive selection of line cards and fabric modules that provide 1-, 10-, 25-, 40-, 50-, and 100-Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.
Cisco N9500 platform line cards
The Cisco N9500 platform supports hot-swappable line cards and fabric modules optimized for data-center deployments. These line cards are built using a combination of Cisco ASICs and merchant ASICs.

Cisco N9500 platform fabric modules and performance
The Cisco N9500 platform is designed as a Clos fabric that interconnects each line card directly with each rear-mounted fabric module. All traffic between the line cards is load balanced across all fabric modules, providing optimal bandwidth distribution within the chassis. This load-balancing capability provides enhanced system reliability and redundancy. The switch continues to operate even in the event of a loss of a fabric module, albeit at a lower capacity, as the remaining fabric modules continue to provide switching capacity to the line cards.
